History

The Duomo is the centre of Bracciano's life and history. Its first construction dates back to around 1200 AD. It has seen Bracciano become first a village and then a Duchy, it has seen the fortress become a castle, it has seen the streets change from dirt to stone. The Duomo bears witness to the loves that have been celebrated there, the crimes that have been confessed, the grief of the funerals that have taken place there. Duke Orsini, Princes Odescalchi, Isabella de Medici, Catherine of Sweden, Popes and Emperors have passed through the gateway and knelt on these stones. This house as well as the cathedral is witness to the history that took place here, and of which you too, today, have become part.
